As if I need more problems…it seems I know have Melasma.  Brief summery, thanks to my Multiple Sclerosis I am now peri-menopausal.  I don’t know if that is even how to spell it, lol.  So a shift in hormones and swimming in the pool and then I look in the mirror and wham!  Huge brown patches all over my face. I fell apart.  I always use sunscreen but I don’t know what went wrong.  I went into hiding basically.  It’s actually lightening on it’s own but I still need some sort of treatment.  I now have what I call my movie star hat & sunglasses that I wear at the pool and use extra sunscreen.  So, before I run out room: HELP!  Tips, advice anything!  I have gotten Eve Pearl foundation & concealer but it’s like the makeup wont “stick” to my face.  I dunno!  Help!

What do you mean ‘extra’ sunscreen, and what sun protection does your sunscreen offer? Are you diagnosed with Melasma?

I have melasma (hyperpigmentation) too. I included a link for you, and this comes from that link. ”People with olive or darker skin, like Hispanic, Asian, and Middle Eastern  individuals, have  higher incidences of melasma”. I am black, but very fair skinned and I used to worship the sun without sunscreen, which was a big mistake.  Now I use an spf 70 especially for the face, wear a hat if I’m going to be in the sun for more than a few minutes.  There are otc treatments like hydroquinone creams, used along with alpha hydroxy creams, but there are other treatments that have to be prescribed by a physician. Plenty of women swear by applying lemon juice to their face, check Makeupalley.com. But you shouldn’t let it send you into a frenzy!

I am hispanic so that is a check in the box and I used to worship the sun also, another check.  I found Avenno (sp?) face sunscreen but I also now know that its very important to reapply often.  What treatment works for you?

Thank you for the suggestions.  I did find a product that is working so well and so fast!!!  I went to Sephora and met a wonderful woman and she walked me through all the products I could use and we finally settled on one and holy cow!!!  It’s Murad Rapid Pigment Lightener.  I’ve been using it for about 1 1/2 weeks and I’m seeing a huge difference!  I really didn’t think there was anything out there that would be able to help but there is.  I would recommend this 100000%!  Its worth every penny.  Its $60 at Sephora.
