Okay Let me be clear, when I say special effects I mean like the avatar, broadways Cats, things like that. Not the horror movie looks.  Im wondering if prints, creams, and in some cases powders are best to create these looks? I would love to get you guys thoughts on the matter. Please dont hesitate in chiming in!….

I agree with amoxirat, also Ben Nye is really good for theatrical, special effects makeup. As for the type of product, you usually use a combination of many types, it really depends on what look you are doing. Are you working on a specific show or character?

However, if this is for theatre or filming if you are using powder products make sure to set them with a spray as your subjects will probably be sweating under the lights. Also avoiding any makeup with SPF in it is important because it will reflect light and make your subjects appear more pale.

I recommend Krylon or Mehron  water colors.  You can find them in palette form or single colors online . They are easy to use and easy to wash off.  I used them for a children’s production of the wizard of oz and it lasted through on the kids with running or fading.  Hth..
