MAC Fix Plus vs Model in a Bottle

Since so many of you have been asking what the difference is between MAC Fix + and Model in a Bottle, I thought I’d share my tips on each one and what they are used for.
MAC Fix Plus
This misting spray can be used for a ton of different things- mist on the face to give a dewy finish to the skin, mix with pigments to create a “foiled” looking eyeshadow, or even spray on hair as a detangler and hair softener. I have to say this is my all time favorite makeup product- there’s not a day that I don’t use it for something!
My main use is for giving a dewy finish to the skin. Once my makeup is applied, I simply mist lightly all over my face- this helps my face powder to almost melt into the skin getting rid of any dry appearance. If you have oily skin though, I recommend not using this as it may make your face look more oily.
Price: $19
Where to Buy: . MAC . Amazon . eBay
Model in a Bottle
This setting spray is my go to product for bridal work as it helps makeup to last all day long! This would also be great for dancers or anyone on stage as bright lights can melt makeup after awhile. Simply mist this all over the face after your makeup is completely done- it makes your makeup almost waterproof (just use a good face cleanser to remove your makeup). I do NOT recommend using this everyday though as it is a heavy duty product that can block pores and irritate the skin if you overuse. Using occasionally is fine as far as I’ve tested. There are 2 formulas: regular and sensitive skin
Price: $17
.
I hope this helps you understand how to use each of these products! Yes, you can use both if you need but each product has a different purpose- one for giving dewy skin, one for setting makeup.
Have a great week Makeup Geeks!
Much love,
Marlena

Hi Marlena, could you advise a daily usable setting spray for combination skin so that my make up will last all day long?
Hi guys,
I tried the Urban Decay “Dew me” setting spray and it works great!
Sorry forgot to mention that I have super sensitive skin … and had absolutely no problem with it.
Urban Decay has 2 sparys DE-SLICK great setting spray for oily skin and ALL NIGHTER another long lasting setting spray. I have used them both and I LOVE them I can’t say enough good about them. I have very oily skin and the DE-SLICK really helps to keep the shine down and my make up lasts all day. Just be sure to spray before your foundation and after your makeup is complete for best results.
Thanks for the clarification. As of this morning, the video would not play though; it’s marked ‘Private’. Thanks also for the tip regarding NOT using Model in a Bottle every day, which I do because of how perfectly my makeup stays put when I do use it.
Is a few times a week ok? I second the other reader’s question, as I have not seen, aside from Urban Decay’s All Nighter, makeup setting sprays out there (I hope there are some more because I’d like to find one for daily use as well).
Thank u for the review
I was wondering if u can come up with a video on products that are perfect for oily to combination skin (Primer, foundation, concealer and the works).
Also, Can u please do a video on how long should we wait till we throw away our makeup.I have a lot of make, some of the stuff is over 1 year old but they still smell good n doesn’t make me out.It will be great if u can do a video where u can tell us the life span for lipsticks, eyeshadows, blush etc.
Thanks again
Much Love

::Thumbs UP::
actually im in love with mac fix spray
here where i live we dont have mac products
but my husband ordered for me frm us
i saw (home make something like mac fix spray) on youtube
so what do u think about it?
Hi marlena, just wanted to ask if you new other setting sprays like the ones they use on film or something cause I have used model in a bottle and did not like it. I bought it last summer because my face was melting and thought this would be ok but it did nothing. I hear good things about UD one have you tried it?
it says that the video was deleted
Thanks for this review Marlena. Your site and tutorials are immensely helpful. I am going to be doing my own bridal make up, and I think a product like Model in a Bottle will be an absolute must have.
Is there a difference product performance between the regular formula and the sensitive formula? Do they both last the same amount of time, and do so as well as each other?
Keep up the stellar work, I really appreciate it
Cheers,
Ali
Thank u for the video

Hi I need something like model in a bottle for everyday any suggestions for an everyday product? My makeup just moves all over the place… Thanks!
can i use both of them together?
use the mac fix plus and then model in a bottle..
Sure why not.
What about Urban Decay’s All Nighter spray? I would like to see how it compares to these two products.
I have been asking this for so long but I have not gotten an answer… is it alright to use both of them? if so, which one should be used first? I asked this because, I like the dewy finish from Mac and the lasting effect from Model in a Bottle.
I would say to use the Mac’s Fix Plus first since it’s not a setting spray. It helps the make-up look smoother on the skin. Once applied, use Model in a Bottle to set everything including the Max Fix Plus.
yes, you can use both
I’m sorry, I missed the last paragraph about using both. However, it did not say if the order of application matters or not. thank you!
Hi,Marlena. I love your tutorials.I need your help:
1. Can you tell me your opinion on MAC Prolong wear concealer?
2.what is your favourite highlighter?
Thank you
Hi Marlena,
Thanks for the review. I am looking forward to trying both of these products and they both seem to work well for their different purposes. At the moment I use Skindinavia Makeup Finishing Spray every day and I have had no problems with breakouts or sensitivity. I use it every day so if anyone was looking for one for every day, that is a good one. I have combination skin which can be sensitive.
Cheers!
Yet another person asking… Information for primer, foundation, and even powder for combination/oily skin. It is very difficult to find, especially in the humid south. Thank you in advance!
I would like an opinion on the Urban Decay Setting Spray as well.
Can you show us how you “mix with pigments to create a “foiled” looking eyeshadow”?
Thanks!
Just wondering but what does model in an bottle smell like?
Great idea to do a review on setting sprays! I was wondering what you think about Urban Decays “Dew Me” setting spray? They say it is used to set makeup to make it last and give your face that fresh dewy look!
Thanks!
Ud sprays are great they are expensive though but sephora has a deluxe sample size of the all nighter for 11 bucks to try. i love fix spray and dont feel like it makes my skin too oily after awhile.
But as far as ud sprays they are GREAT as well
Could you find model in a bottle at any drugstores or other stores? not online? thank you :]
Does anyone know where to purchase model in a bottle in Texas?
Article is very interesting, thanks for your sharing..
Hi, Marlena, I love Mac fix plus, I think it’s the perfect all in one product!!! I must tell i’m in love with the way your skin looks in this review. Can you tell me what are you wearing? Not only your skin, but all your makeup!!
Thanks a lot!!!
Bernie.
