Review: Beauty Blender Sponge

What is It?
“The first ergonomically designed non-disposable sponge applicator that allows you to flawlessly apply your makeup.”
Marlena’s Translation: a pink egg shaped sponge to apply your makeup with. (got it muggies?
)
My Opinion:
I keep 3 of these babies in my kit at all times- yes, 3! I use these on myself as well as clients to blend out foundation or to simply apply foundation with. The shape of the sponge is perfect for getting around the nose, under the eyes, and any other crevice that sneeks up on the face. Unlike most other sponges, this one doesn’t absorb too much liquid leaving you high and dry. My only complaint of this is the price, but I think it’s still worth it as it does work really well.
I will use the Makeup Geek Deluxe Stippling Brush on myself most of the time as it gives a fuller coverage, but I use the beauty blender on clients as it’s not as invasive to their face
I’ll also use the Beauty Blender when I want a lighter coverage or when the foundation is thicker (the wet sponge helps the foundation spread easier)
Rating:
- Product: 5 out of 5

- Quality: 5 out of 5

Would I buy again? Absolutely!

Viddler version coming soon guys! Sorry about the short delay! Much love!
Whats viddler version?
for our German viewers who cannot view the YouTubey version
Check out the link at the top of the video that says “Unable to view this YouTube video? Try this mirror instead.”
That should bring up an alternative video to watch
thanks nicola, really appreciate it
I just watched this on YouTube and saw a few comments about a beauty blender dupe (Sonia Kashuk, maybe); have you tried any other egg-shaped sponges? I’d like to try the beauty blender, but I’d rather try something cheaper first.
Would you recommend it instead of Revlon Colorstay?
P.S. That foundation looks great on you
Sorry for all the questions!
how do u clean the beauty blender?
thanks
I’m pretty sure you just wash it in warm soapy water and air dry it. If it’s for clients I would give it a spray with some brush cleaner just to make sure all the germs are gone.
Thanks alot!
I love this product. I like the idea of having multiple sponges/ it really balances tone of my skin.

or some way i cant get ride off the mold
thanks
i dont remember how i fell upon your site… but i am an avid watcher hoping to become a makeup artist/ hairstylist one day. I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS! but mostly wanted to tell you that you have been looking so skinny recently… much love.
I have been thinking about getting some of these for clients. They look quite good. In Australia (and probably other places) you can get a sponge called the Beauty Pod. Here is the website:
http://www.beautypod.com.au/
It looks similar and it’s cheaper but I was wondering if anyone has used both and which one is better?
Looking good as always Marlena. Thanks for the review.
i’ve always been interested in this. i’ve been using a foundation brush but sometimes it doesn’t work very well. i think maybe it’s about time i try this. how do you wash it, Marlena? do you use the solution it comes with?
They have something similar at Ulta for $5. It’s a “super blender” for foundation application and blending. It also has a pointed tip for the nose and eyes. I haven’t really tried it out yet though so I can’t really say its the same or any better but definitely cheaper.
Marlena, do you know anything about the Sonia Kashuk or the Ulta knockoff? I’ve read that this is basically like any other makeup sponge but it’s the shape makes it so versatile. Thanks!
What was the name of the primer. I need a primer for very sensitive skin. I am 38 years old with combination oily skin with a fair amount of wrinkles and large pores. I purchase my makeup either Elder Beermans or Drugstores. It sounds horrible but I just recently began to use make up because of your site and your tutorials. I never could make it look right in the past or would have such severe allergic reactions it wasn’t worth all the frustration and discomfort. Thank you for all that you do you truly are an inspiration.
Benefit Porefessional Primer
Ok so I have been wanting to try the beauty blender but Im not sure is any good for me. I just read what you wrote that you use it for a lighter vertion of foundation. I like having my foundation medium to full coverage can I achive this with the beauty blender? I hear people saying its for a dewy or natural finish but nothing on coverage wise.
Ciao sono una ragazza italia volevo acquistare 2 prodotti dallo store, ma spedite anche in italia ?
Thanks Marlena! I appreciate you showing us what you are using for primer and foundation now.
I checked on beautypedia.com (my go-to for reviews on products–I’ve wasted SO much money
on products in the past!) and Lancome’s Teint Idole Ultra Enduringly Divine & Comfort makeup
got high marks! I’ll have to give that a try. I love a full coverage, non-oily look. Thank you for your awesome videos!!
Where did you get the pink lighted vanity?? Thanks so much!!
I have oily skin & ALOT of acne scars & a bit of acne, does that foundation have good coverage? & is it good for my type of skin?
Is there really a difference between using this and using a damp, good quality sponge wedge? Yes, you can get some really rough, light cheapie wedges out there, but the nice dense latex-free ones have been an industry standard for years, and I just can’t see what the difference (other than shape and color) would be…at least, not enough to justify the difference in cost! I’d love to hear your thoughts, I’m sure you’ve used both
omg, I got the beauty blender a year ago and I will NEVER go back. The coverage (for me) that the beauty blender gives is so flawless. I have a few issues with acne and this beauty blender literally makes my face look so good, also my skin tone is a little uneven (I’m red around my T-zone) and the beauty blender evens everything out!
yay beauty blender!
Just received mine today! À friend of my recommended this thing to me but I had no idea how to use it! So thank you for this video, its very helpfull. Going to practice tomorrow morning!
Hey Marlena!! I absolutely love your tutorials. I purchased the Beauty Blender as I’ve heard so many good things about it. Thanks for another wonderful tutorial.
I really love the Beauty Blender! The only problem I had with it is that the pink dye in the sponge keeps coming out when I wash it… Did anyone else have this same problem?
I’ve always wanted to use one of these, but I don’t know whether they are available in Canada or not. They look neat though! I noticed you used Lancome Teint Miracle foundation in one of your tutorials, Marlena, and I was wondering what you thought of it! I just started using it and I think I’m going to return it and purchase the Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation. I heard it was great! Hope to hear from you
What do you use to clean it, brush cleaner, shampoo, etc?
Sephora has a cleaner for the sponge or you can simply use baby shampoo
Thanks for the video, but how do you clean it?
Does this sponge harbor bacteria if you are using water in it?
Hey Marlena!! I absolutely love your tutorials, I really love the beauty blender. I have a fashion site and I would love to mention and show some of your youtube video if thats ok
Hello!! I am very new to the makeup world and have been watching videos to learn. This is the best website I’ve found for doing so!! I love it and recommend it to all my friends. So, anywhooo, I was wondering when putting on foundation is it better to use this or the stippling brush??
Hello Marlena,
I have a really pending question after watching this video. I use the Maybelline Dream Smooth Mousse foundation which comes with its own thick (slice of) sponge. Would the beauty blender work well for a mousse textured foundation? Would it also be good for a pressed powder foundation? I look forward to your insights. Thank you!
Marlena,
How do you properly store the beauty blender in order to keep it separate from all of other products in your makeup bag?
So Marlena? do you recommend or its better to use a darker color cancelar than our skin uder the eyes??
this maybe looks like a dum question but do i have to wet it everytime i use it? thanks
hi
how are you?
I fell in love with this when I saw it but the price really threw me off!!!
However, while shopping online for some new brushes I came across the FACE SMOOTHIE SPONGE from Mehron!!!! It is only $9.95!!!!!!!!
http://www.mehron.com/Face_Smoothie_Sponge_p/122fs.htm
Can you buy beauty blender spounges in drugstores? Is there an alternative that is avalible in drugstores?
I have always wondered if you need to use more foundation with sponges, don’t they soak up the make up?
