REVIEW: Urban Decay Meltdown Makeup Remover
Because I am such a makeup geek and have to try just about anything new out there, I thought I’d give Urban Decay’s new makeup remover a try. I was drawn in by its creative and fun packaging- the squeeze tube is unique and I love the package design!
The product itself is very creamy, which I wasn’t expecting for a makeup remover. It felt more like a moisturizer than a remover, and to be completely honest: it didn’t really take my makeup off that well. Don’t get me wrong, I love Urban Decay (their palettes and eyeliners are amazing!) But this makeup remover just didn’t hold up to my expectations. I’m very used to my beloved Clinique Makeup Remover as it takes off my makeup in one swipe. (see my review here: Makeup Remover Review) With this Urban Decay one, I had to rinse with water afterwards to get anything off and even then I still had some eye makeup left behind…
What I love:
- The packaging- very unique and creative
- It has a fresh smell that isn’t overpowering
- Was too creamy
- Did not remove my eye makeup that well- got stuck in my lashes because of the creamy formula
- The price could be just a tad cheaper
I really wanted to like this product as I love the Urban Decay brand, but I am sticking to my Clinique one as it removes my makeup much better. (get the purple Clinique one as it has a touch of oil in it which breaks down makeup better. Just rinse afterwards)

Try the estee lauder take the day off makeup remover
I love using Lush’s Ultra Bland. I have dry skin and this is product doesn’t make my skin feel dried out after I use it. I mostly just use it to take off my eye makeup. I can get this product all up in my eye and it doesn’t burn even a tiny bit (which I LOVE!).
Don’t know if you’ll see my question in the YouTube comment, but I’ll ask here, as well.
I’m interested in trying the Clinique eye makeup remover based on your review, especially since it is cheaper than what I use. What do you think about the Bi-Facil Eye Makeup Remover by Lancome?
I currently use? this and have been for over 5 months. Clinique’s formula sounds similar to Lancome’s (which does work good for me as I do love it’s performance as a product), but wanted to hear a quick comparison (if you’ve ever used Bi-Facil) since I’m looking to also try Clinique.
Main reason: Lancome’s Bi-Facil is 27 dollars. That would save me some money to use Clinique if it was just as good or better and only costs 18 dollars.
I’m not Marlena, but I know the answer to your question. Go to the Clinique makeup counter and give it a try. The ladies there are very helpful and knowledgeable about all the Clinique and Estee Lauder products. If you don’t like what you experience with the clinique makeup remover then you don’t have to purchase it. If you do like it then get a bottle of it. I found it took lipstick off quickly and I didn’t have to scrub, but it left a white residue behind. My favorite eye make up removers are Mary Kay and Philosophy’s Purity. It takes everything off without a lot of scrubbing and trouble and it’s not drying like a lot of the other face washes can be.
I haven’t tried the Lancome one, so not sure if it’s similar to Clinique? I would ask for a sample of the Clinique one to see if you like- it works wonders for me
I am using my second bottle of Cliniques Take the day off and i love it. Best thing i ever had for removing eye make up
Will definately have to try. Now did you say you use it as an all over makeup remover or just for your eyes? Im curious because I use to only use towelettes to remove all my makeup then noticed it started to bother my eyes, being a person that wears contacts and I heard from someone I should use the Sonia Kashuk Eye Makeup Remover. It works like a gem to me but seems to not last very long. I will definately try the clinique and see how it goes. Thanks for all the wonderful advice Marlena.
I use towelettes for my face and makeup remover for my eyes
I completely agree with this review. I didnt think that it got off my makeup at all. Will be a loyal Bi-facil person from here on out.
I also bought this UD make-up remover and I was quite disappointed too. I totally agree that it doesn’t remove all the make-up. And I just hate its flowery smell that I find really too strong.
The product is also unpleasant to use for the eyes as they’ll get blurd and irritated.
I usually Bioderma and I’ve been very happy with it for years now…. and it’s so much cheaper !
I have really dry skin and after years of searching found 2 makeup removers that are safe for all areas of your face and you do not need to use an additional cleanser. MAC Cleanse Off Oil and Origins Clean Energy (both Lauder lines). I lean more towards MAC because it is a little lighter weight oil and I love the scent but I feel they both do a terrific job and do not strip moisture from skin.
I used to use the clinique remover (purple bottle) and loved it too. An even better and cheaper remover is some witchhazel and olive oil mixed together! it takes off EVERYTHING and soo easily without using too much product! your skin is amazing afterwards! i use it everyday and my skin is is glowing!
Great tip! Thanks for sharing
Best thing I’ve ever tried are Huggies wipes. They work like magic. Don’t get a different or generic brand because they sting a bit but huggies are amazing.
I agree! but the Clinique is great
I too use the clinique remover &honestly nothing is better or more fuss free. I feel as though some urban decay is hit or miss with me. I love it or I want to love it but it doesnt work well for me.
Thanks for this Marlena…I am still on the hunt for the perfect makeup remover.
i would try the one from benefit called remove it! is 100% oil free and water based, takes away waterproof mascara in an awesome way and even dark cream eye shadows that stay all day like the paint pots from mac and the new ones from maybeline
Sonia Kascuk (sp?) has an amazing makeup remover, it’s an oil based remover so it’s not all alcoholy…my fab!!!
